FAQs

  • Most likely, you have already added that item to your tote. We don’t hold deep inventory on most of our products, so chances are you got the last of that item, or accidentally added all units. Go up to the top right corner of the site and click on the tote to check and see if the item has already been added.

  • Many practices make up the concept of sustainability, and we are always looking for innovations that speak to human and environmental sustainability. Here are some of our baselines:

    • We source our collection from companies with sustainable and ethical supply chains. This means we have assurance from third party certifications or from first hand knowledge that the company has an explicit commitment to fair labor, sustainable materials, and/or social responsibility at the minimum.

    • We look for designs that have a long potential wearable life, be it a classic style, durable quality, or with design details that make it possible to wear for a variety of purposes and seasons.

    • We choose fabrics that have a variety of sustainable certifications, such as GOTS certified organic cotton, oeko tex standard 100 non-toxic, and fair trade certified.

    • We get to know our suppliers. Sometimes certifications can be too much for small businesses, so we are willing to forgo one stringent checklist when we know first hand the unique process for which a small business brings their products to market.

    • When we produce our own items, we only source sustainable materials and pay fair wages for production.

    • For the winter, merino wool is a great choice as it does not have the itchiness perceived from most conventional wool. However, this sometimes isn’t enough. Which is why many of our wool hats and mittens are also lined with organic cotton.

    • All of our products made by Kivat company: the hats, mittens, and some wool clothing, are all pre-washed at least 3 times for those children susceptible to skin irritation from materials with leftover substances from the production process.

    • Our socks are mostly sourced from MP Denmark, who we know have superior quality, and the socks do not have irritating seams for the most sensitive toes.

    • Our cotton clothing is so soft, wager…The Softest! Each supplier has a different signature fabric, so there is a variety in feel, but all of them are selected for their superior softness.

    • GOTS certified organic cotton

    • Mulesing free merino wool, a process that ensures humane treatment of the merino sheep.

    • Recycled cotton

    • Recycled poly

    • Pima cotton, a process that uses less water

    • Oeko-tex non toxic certified products

    • Lycocell, an eco-friendly certified product from a wood pulp fiber that recycles the water in the process.

    • Upcycled deadstock materials

    • Made Safe HQ certified beauty products

    • Vegan products

  • We believe that giving a damn about the earth and other humans is the most desirable, and we don’t think you have to forgo your values to look and feel your best. In pursuit of inspiring a more sustainable fashion industry, Ave Lumi was founded to offer modern families style options that won’t break the bank and that will fit into their multidimensional lives.

We can generally classify our values under the following umbrellas:

    • Environmental sustainability

    • Human sustainability

    • Diversity

    • Community

    • Supply chain - Once we have the product in store, we want to continue a sustainable experience until it leaves our hands. This is why we continue to choose sustainable packaging materials. Our mailers are recycled poly, our boxes are made in the USA from recycled materials, our tissue is recycled paper made in the USA, our hang tags are made from recycled paper, our tape is compostable, and the list goes on.

    • Store - We strive to always make sustainable choices when sourcing displays and fixtures. We prioritize using what we already have, then we choose second hand, after that we go for natural materials, locally sourced. We’re not saying that we don’t make IKEA purchases, we do, but we do our best to make every purchase last, and to not buy more just because we perceive a need.

    • Partnerships - We prioritize partnerships with businesses and individuals that have explicit commitments to social and environmental causes.

    • Waste disposal - this is really the heart of sustainability. We prioritize responsible disposal of waste. We recycle, we reuse, we reduce. We never just donate deadstock to goodwill. If we donate, we research the recipients and do our best to keep any donations local for those who can genuinely benefit.

  • You do not need to wash the hats and wool clothing as it is all pre-washed. Any other items are at your discretion, as they may have been tried on in store.

    • We recommend washing cotton and lyocell clothing on cold and hanging to dry.

    • We recommend washing your wool socks inside out, on a cold wash and then hanging to dry.

    • Wool clothing and accessories should be washed with wool washing detergent on delicate. When removed from the wash, reshape and lay flat to dry.

    • Waterproof gear should be hand washed and hung dry.

    • Bathing suits should be washed on delicate and hung to dry.
